Sagarmatha......Goddess Of The Sky.....as Mt Everest is known in Tibet.

Sagarmatha Relay............. exactly just like our Sagarmatha Solo event............but.......... on a different hill............not open to solo runners...........and only open to teams of 2.

So "exactly " on this occasion actually means "kind of"

The aim is for our teams to run down and up the same hill over and over and over.......until each individual team has reached a total elevation gain that equates to the height of Mt Everest - 29,028 ft............within a 24 hrs time limit.

Teams must be a minimum of 2 people. Teams must be a maximum of 2 people...................so 2 people only in each team then eh.

Each descent on the route is approximately 3/4 of a mile down......ergo making the ascent back up again the same 3/4 of a mile back. One complete down and up is 1.55 miles in total. Each climb up has an overall elevation of 401 ft.

So, to do the math then .........Each team will be required to complete 74 legs which gives a total elevation of 29,674 ft and a total mileage of 114.7 miles.

So how is it gonna work on the day then? We have done some more math to work that out..................Team members must run one leg in strict rotation, ie: only one runner from each team on the route at the same time. ONE leg must be run then the other team member must run ONE leg, ie: one team member cannot run more than one leg before "tagging in" their other team member.

So this then means that each team member will have to do 37 legs each. This will give each individual runner a distance of 57.35 miles and an overall elevation of 14,837 ft elevation
